Safety Coordinator

-Join us as Safety Coordinator where you will be responsible for the management a Safety Team at an Operation and the optimisation of the safety and risk control permanent and contractor activities at chemical processing plants through design, implementation, evaluation, coordination and management of the safety, risk management, as well as for ensuring legal compliance at the site via the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993) and its regulations.

Job Description
-As the Safety Coordinator your responsibilities will include:
- Executes the function of Safety Coordinator applying and enforcing legal compliance and management systems conformance
- Develop tactics and strategy for the annual Safety Improvement Plan and ensuring plans are in place for Operations.
- Tracking, Measuring and analysis of leading and lagging indicators and developing improvement plans.
- Presenting current status of indicators of performance and crafting future improvements
- Leading a team of Safety Officers and Safety Reps at the designated areas as part of a larger SHEQ Team.
- Participate, lead, coach, mentor, and drive site safety inspections.
- Co-ordinate and participate in Safety VFLs, and audits for Operations/Site.
- Co-ordinate and participate in various types of Risk-Assessments for the Operations.
- Manage the quality of PTO’s, JRA’s, action close-out, and other Isometrix tools
- Drive proper incident investigations for the operation.
- Advises and review of safety policies, procedures and standards.
- Recommends and implements safety and risk controls.
- Manages external and internal safety audits with the team.
- Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities as well as low energy incidents.
- Identify specific risks within working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/system to avoid or mitigate these risks.
- Hold individuals to account in line with their role authority and accountability structures
- Adhere to external local compliance requirements as a minimum level of site performance
- Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of team
This role is in the Safety Department at a Band 6 level reporting to SHE Manager
Qualifications
-You will need the following:
- Tertiary diploma (degree preferred) (M+3) in SHE, or Safety, or Health, or SHE Risk Management Control
The following courses are advantageous
- Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993)
- Implementation of ISO 45001
- Auditing of ISO 45001/ ISO9001/ ISO 14001
- Incident/Accident Investigation
- Project management
- SAMTRAC or similar
- SHE Reps Training
- Isometrix or similar systems training
- Behaviour Based Safety
- Quality Assurance
- Managing others
- Presentation and facilitation courses
Experience Essential
- At Least 5 years experience as a Manager or Officer in Safety /Health / Risk / Environmental in Chemical Manufacturing/Process/ Mining environments
Knowledge and Skills preferred:
- Computer literate (MS Power point, Word, Excel, Access and Projects)
- Managing Others
- Managing projects
- Train the Trainer
- Presentation and Facilitation skills
- Auditors courses for Safety and Risk Control management
- Risk Assessment facilitation
- Root cause analysis: (5 Why, Fault Tree Analysis, RCAT, etc)
- Accident investigation
- Basic emergency management response
- Behaviour Based Safety
